MMWCCHCC is a member of the Make Medicare Work Coalition (MMW). MMW is a collaboration to promote access to affordable health care options in Illinois. MMW is led by AgeOptions, Health & Disability Advocates, and Progress Center for Independent Living. MMW provides materials, training, and technical assistance to professionals serving older adults and people with disabilities to enable them to help their clients access health care and prescription drug services and supports.

CCHCC also works with Families USA, a leading national voice for health care consumers. Families USA is dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care and improved health for all. They advance their mission through public policy analysis, advocacy, and collaboration with partners to promote a patient-and community-centered health system.

Medicare

What is Medicare?
Medicare card
Medicare(the red, white and blue card) is a federal insurance program for people 65 and older, people under 65 with certain disabilities, and people of any age with end-stage renal disease. Original Medicare typically covers about 80% of your out-of-pocket medical costs.

The Medicare Annual Open Enrollment Period runs each year from  October 15 to December 7, for plans starting January 1. The next Medicare Annual Open Enrollment Period starts October 15, 2017 for 2018 plans.

Local Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) Sites

SHIP sites provide free health benefits counseling for Medicare beneficiaries and their families or caregivers. The goal is to educate, counsel, and empower people to make informed Health Care decisions. SHIP is an independent program funded by federal agencies and is not affiliated with the insurance industry. Illinois’ SHIP program is sponsored by the Illinois Department on Aging. There are three local SHIP site in the Champaign-Urbana area.
