Champaign County Nursing Home important upcoming meetings!

Dear friend,

We sent an e-mail yesterday asking you to save the date for a special community meeting on Saturday where you can come and learn more about the Champaign County Nursing Home (CCNH).

But there is also a very important meeting tomorrow night. Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 9 at 7 p.m., the Champaign County Board is holding a Special Meeting in order for the company that is bidding on the CCNH to come and do a presentation and answer questions.

In yesterday’s e-mail, there were a couple of errors regarding the County Board’s process for voting on the sale of the CCNH. Those mistakes are corrected further below in this e-mail.

Please read below for more information on the following:
a. A Special County Board Meeting TOMORROW night where the bidder for CCNH will present information and answer questions.
b. A special Community Meeting about the CCNH
c. Next steps and meeting dates for the County Board to consider the sale of CCNH.
d. An Op-Ed on the CCNH

TOMORROW – Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 7 p.m. – Special County Board Meeting with Presentation by CCNH bidder, Altitude Health Services and Extended Care Clinical, LLC:
http://www.co.champaign.il.us/CountyBoard/CB/2018/180509_Special_Meeting/180509agenda.pdf

This meeting will be an important opportunity for the County Board and the community to hear a presentation by the companies that have submitted a bid for the CCNH. If you look at the link above, you will see that the Agenda for the meeting includes Public Participation as the last agenda item.

Saturday, May 12 from 1 – 3 p.m. – A special Community Meeting about the CCNH:
Please save the date, and plan to attend, a special Community Meeting sponsored by the Friends of Champaign County Nursing Home.

WHO: Friends of Champaign County Nursing Home

WHAT: Community Meeting on Champaign County Nursing Home

WHEN: Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 1 – 3 p.m.

WHERE: Urbana Free Library, 210 West Green Street, Urbana – in the basement in the Lewis Auditorium

Topics to be covered at the meeting include the following: a) the changing financial picture of the CCNH; b) promising opportunities for the CCNH; c) quality of care improvements at CCNH under the new management firm SAK; and d) pitfalls of for-profit ownership of nursing homes (especially investor-owned for-profit companies).

Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. – County Board’s Committee of the Whole (COW) Meeting.

Corrected information: The County Board will not be voting on whether or not to consider the bid for the CCNH, because the Committee that was reviewing the bid already forwarded it to the County Board, which will make a decision at its May 24 meeting (see below).

However, the County Board’s Committee of the Whole Meeting on Tuesday, May 15 is still an important opportunity for public participation and for constituents to speak directly to the County Board as whole.

No agenda is available yet for this meeting, but stay tuned.

Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. – The sale of the CCNH will be on the agenda for this meeting, as will approval of a county budget process.

This meeting is very important! This is the meeting where the vote to sell or not sell the CCNH to this bidder will take place.

Corrected information: The previous e-mail from yesterday stated that the County Board would be voting on its next fiscal year’s budget at this particular meeting. That was incorrect. The County Board will not be voting on a budget, but rather the budget process.

No agenda is available for this meeting yet.

An Important Op-Ed in Sunday, May 6, 2018 The News-Gazette:
If you have not yet read the Op-Ed by Cathy Emanuel in Sunday’s News-Gazette, please do so! You might be surprised by what you learn:

Please stay vigilant for more important information about the Champaign County Nursing Home and the bid to purchase it.

Sincerely,
