On Tuesday, March 27 The News-Gazette had an article about Congressman Rodney Davis (R-IL 13) in which Rep. Davis commented on a number of different topics, including health care.
There is a big push right now in various states to impose “work requirements” on Medicaid beneficiaries – especially those individuals who are receiving Medicaid as a result of the Affordable Care Act’s expansion of the Medicaid program.
Rep. Davis echoes some of the talking points that “work requirements” advocates make, including trying to give the impression that people who are “able-bodied” should not be on Medicaid and just need help finding the right kind of employment that offers good coverage.
From his comments in The News-Gazette, it is very clear that Rep. Davis doesn’t understand Medicaid. Or the decline of employer-based health insurance. Or the job market in his district. Or the lives of working people who, despite employment, have low-incomes.
