Action at Rep. Davis’s office on Rx pricing Tuesday, August 20 at 10:00 a.m

August 19, 2019

Dear friend,

There are two opportunities THIS week to try to address questions and issues to U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL 13).

The first is an “Open Government Night” meeting tonight at Parkland College. For more information on that event, please see The News-Gazette article

The second event is tomorrow – Tuesday, August 20 at 10 a.m. at Rep. Rodney Davis’s office. This event focuses on lowering prescription drug prices (details below).

Did you know:
Prescription drug prices jumped 10.5 percent in just the first six months of 2019 – the increase is four times faster than inflation. Increases are not just for specialty drugs: the cost of the four most popular types of insulin tripled over the past decade. This kind of price-gouging kills patients. When people cannot afford medicine, they are often forced to make the painful choice to not take it, turning a routine illness into a life-threatening condition.

Please join us on Tuesday, August 20 at 10 a.m. at Rep. Davis’s office. Here are the details:

What: Press action calling on the Trump Administration and Rep. Rodney Davis to take action to lower drug prices.

This event is part of the “People Over Pharma Profits” National Day of Action, with thousands of activists across the country demanding President Trump and Congress move beyond tweaks, half-measures and promises by proposing reforms that take away drug corporations’ power to set and keep prices high.

Activists will demand a comprehensive plan to hold drug makers accountable, end drug monopolies and guarantee all patients can get affordable medicines they need.

When: Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.

Where: Rep. Rodney Davis’s Office – 2004 Fox Dr., Champaign, IL 61820

Who: Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans, Citizen Action/Illinois, Champaign County Health Care Consumers

BACKGROUND:
As drug corporations and their PhRMA lobbyists continue to hike prescription drug prices to boost profits, they put the health and economic security of Americans in jeopardy. Trump’s NAFTA 2.0 deal includes new monopoly powers for pharmaceutical corporations so they can charge more in the United States, Canada and Mexico. After failing to deliver on his 2016 campaign promise to bring down medicine prices, Trump’s new NAFTA could raise some drug prices here and undermine Trump’s recently announced proposal to import cheaper drugs from Canada.
We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
Champaign County Health Care Consumers
