Disability Rights

CCHCC organized the Disability Rights Task Force in 2004 to work for improving the quality of health care available to people with disabilities in our community. The Task Force was led by community members with disabilities who were working to educate the community and health care providers about the rights of people and patients with disabilities, the need for proper training among medical personnel to work with people with Disability Rightsdisabilities, as well the need for facilities and medical equipment (for example, exam tables and mammography equipment) tobe accessible to people with disabilities. Ultimately, the Task Force hoped to see all health care facilities in our community become fully accessible while being committed to, and capable of providing, “patient-centered” care to all patients, including people with disabilities.
