CCHCC’s ACA Open Enrollment Community Meeting – Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 6 p.m.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is still the law of the land, and private health insurance plans and financial assistance are available through the Marketplace (healthcare.gov)!

This year, the Open Enrollment period for a 2018 ACA Marketplace plan, is only 45 days long – from November 1 through December 15, 2017. Consumers who need to purchase their health insurance through the Marketplace need to get ready!

Please plan to attend CCHCC’s ACA Open Enrollment Community MeetingThursday, October 26, 2017 at 6 p.m. at the Champaign Public Library (200 W. Green Street, Champaign).

Topics to be discussed include: Types of health insurance offered through the Health Insurance Marketplace (also known as the ACA / “Obamacare” / healthcare.gov); Financial assistance available to help make health insurance more affordable;  Exemptions from the Individual Responsibility Requirement (the “individual mandate”) and how to apply for exemptions; How to know if you qualify for a Marketplace plan with financial assistance, or for Medicaid; How you can get ready for the Marketplace Open Enrollment; How you can help others get the information they need to get covered; Where to go for help (Hint: CCHCC staff are ACA Federally Certified Application Counselors – we can help you get enrolled!).

What you can do to help save the Champaign County Nursing Home!

The Champaign County Nursing Home (CCNH) is an important community health asset, but it is in financial distress largely as a result of the State of Illinois’ failures to make Medicaid payments.
CCHCC believes that we, as a community, should work to save the Champaign County Nursing Home. Selling this important public health care asset to a for-profit corporation would be a tremendous loss to our community, and there are many reasons to fear a decline in quality of care. To learn more about CCHCC’s position on the Champaign County Nursing Home, and why we supported a property tax increase and opposed the referendum to sell or dispose of the CCNH, please see our action alert from March of this year:

Add your name to our petition calling on the State of Illinois to improve its Medicaid application and payment process. With your help, we can build enough public pressure to make the State of Illinois more responsive to the CCNH.

Medicare Open Enrollment! – Begins on October 15!

The Medicare Open Enrollment period for enrolling in Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D (prescription) plans for 2018 is from October 15 through December 7, 2017.

CCHCC is working to help Medicare beneficiaries, and those who will be new to Medicare, to get ready! We held a Medicare Open Enrollment Community Meeting on Wednesday, October 11 at the Champaign Public Library. We covered everything from the basics of Medicare (what do all those parts mean?!), to the differences between Advantage Plans and Supplements, to Part D, and what happens during Open Enrollment and what you need to know.
