CURE Rally TOMORROW – Saturday at 11am, with CCHCC speaker

October 31, 2025

Please join CCHCC for a rally TOMORROW – Saturday, Nov. 1 – at 11 a.m. at the Champaign County Courthouse in Urbana!

CCHCC’s Executive Director, Claudia Lennhoff, will be one of four speakers at tomorrow’s “Start the Change” CURE rally. Claudia will be speaking about the healthcare devastation created by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act – the partisan budget bill signed into law on July 4 of this year.

About CURE:
CURE is the Champaign-Urbana Resistance Effort, a Champaign County organization started earlier this year to oppose the threats to democracy posed by the current administration.

This will be the third rally sponsored by CURE this year. The group held a rally for democracy on March 29 and a March for Moms on May 10, the day before Mother’s Day. Both events attracted more than a thousand supporters.

About tomorrow’s Start the Change Rally:
Four Champaign-Urbana residents have agreed to speak at Saturday’s event:

– retired Champaign County Circuit Judge Michael Q. Jones. Jones, who served on the bench from 1996 to 2018, also is a U.S. Army veteran. He was an interrogator and a Vietnamese linguist during his tour of duty in Vietnam. Jones was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He will speak on the militarization of federal agencies, and history.

– Claudia Lennhoff, the Executive Director of the Champaign County Health Care Consumers, whose mission is health care for all and health care justice. A community organizer for some 30 years, Lennhoff will speak about Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act and how it will decimate health care for millions of people. Those changes are based not on health policy, but on a massive reverse transfer of wealth benefiting the mega rich.

– Joe Pavia, a former assistant state’s attorney who has argued cases before the Illinois appellate and Supreme Courts and federal courts, will address the administration’s contempt for our rights under the First and Fourth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

– the Rev. Ann F. Spurgeon is a retired elder of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. She came out of the Arcola United Methodist Church, which supported her through seminary. She will speak on navigating the dark times of the Trump administration.

A local duet, the Back Porch Boys, will provide inspirational patriotic music, including traditional protest songs.

Please join us for the rally!

As always, thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
Champaign County Health Care Consumers
