December 18, 2025
Please join CCHCC and many others at an advocacy meeting TOMORROW, on Friday, December 19 at 2:30 p.m.! U.S. Representative Nikki Budzinski is teaming up with area agencies who serve seniors to put on this important meeting.
The purpose of this event is to demonstrate support for the Older Americans Act (OAA), which is under threat for significant loss of funding by the Trump Administration in the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget.
Please read below for more information about the OAA and tomorrow’s event.
What does the Older Americans Act do?
The Older Americans Act (OAA) was passed into law in 1965 as an effort to help provide greater support and economic stability for older Americans. The law was passed along with the Medicare and Medicaid Act, in recognition that many older Americans needed community-based supports in order to age safely in their own communities.
The OAA works quietly and behind the scenes to provide a wide array of services to older Americans, including:
- Nutrition services in congregate settings as well as Meals On Wheels.
- Supportive services such as transportation, personal care, adult daycare, information and referral.
- Family caregiver support such as respite, counseling, training, and support groups for caregivers.
- Health promotion such as disease prevention and wellness programs including fall prevention at home.
- Elder rights including the Long-Term Care Ombudsman program (advocates for residents in nursing homes) and elder abuse prevention.
- And much more!
